Choosing the best method of cooking chicken

We raised some delicious chicken on our farm, and are pretty familiar with the best way to enjoy all of the cuts so we thought we would let you in on some secrets!! All of our chicken is available by the individual cut or in bulk boxes (5 and 10 lbs)

In this post we will talk about the most popular cuts and the least popular (but my honest favourite cut!!) and how best to cook them.

Best methods of cooking?

Each cut of chicken varies on how best to cook it. Whether you are a fan of the slow cooker, smoker, cast iron or BBQ there is a cut of chicken that is best suited for you!
Slow Cooker:  Chicken thighs and drumsticks are best in the slow cooker!! Anything that is a "tougher" cut of meat turns out best slow cooked. Slow cooking allows the connective tissues in the meat to break down giving you a tender, fall off the bones, result! Chicken thighs are by far my favourite cut of chicken, they are so delicious slow cooked with our Mexican diced tomatoes... yum!

Smoker: Smokers have gained some crazy popularity in the last couple years. While you can smoke just about any cut of chicken here are our favourites. Smoked whole chickens and smoked flat cut chickens! The flat cuts are great on the smoker because they take about half the time of the whole chickens and are still just as juicy and delicious!

BBQ: The BBQ is great for all kinds of chicken, our favourite cuts to BBQ include chicken wings and chicken breasts! Season with salt, pepper and a simple rub and you are off to the grill.

Cast Iron or Frying pan: While not everyone owns cast iron (we think you should all invest though!) you can always use your favourite frying pan to cook chicken breasts, ground chicken or even chicken wings!
